Cultivating Content:Taking the plunge

We’ve heard it said that there’s nothing as exciting as the blank page. That may be true, but there’s also nothing as scary. You may have the sparkliest idea scribbled on your grocery receipt or perfectly executed in your planner-- but putting it out into the world can be seriously nerve-wracking. We’ve been there, and we’re here to help. As content royalty, we know that as frightening as that post button may be, your brilliance deserves to be showcased!

Below is our well-traveled road map to get you started. Let’s go.

Start somewhere! Anywhere!
Nine times out of ten, the biggest hurdle is just committing to the bit. Start brainstorming. Whip out your notebook and answer the following:

-What message do you want to share?

-Why is it important to you, and why should it be important to others?

-Who is your ideal audience?

-Where are your wildest dreams for this content? Noting this helps to keep you on track when we lose our footing. Remember to keep rooting for yourself!

Content Pillars

You’ve taken the leap, so let’s craft some content! Make a list of all the topics/ideas you want to touch on. Classroom games? BIPOC representation? Podcast recs your target viewers would like? Content pillars are a fantastic way to map out your materials, keep you organized, and provide a birds-eye view of your overall content. Content pillars create a guide for what you’d like to write about and how often!

Connect With Your Copy

In 2021, we’re being bombarded with content as soon as we wake up. Most of it feels gross and gimmicky- constantly pulling at your pockets. Create content that emotes a truthful, emotional response so that people want to stop and stay (rather than scroll and delete). How do you do this?

Build your materials with the audience’s perspective in mind. Read your content as a viewer, and see if you honestly connect with what you’re saying. If it feels too pushy or wallet grabby- try again.

Build Your Brand

Consider this: what do you want people to come to you for? Followers and patrons visit pages time and again because they create a feeling and/or provide information. Grab that notebook again and answer these for some more insight:

-If your brand was a song, what would it be?

-If your brand was a TV show/movie, what would it be?

-If your brand was a place/city, what would it be?

These questions will help form a consistent experience for your audience and create meaningful engagement to increase your digital footprint.

So go ahead and get started! We know the beginning can be overwhelming, so we want to help create as many resources as possible to elevate you and your ideas. For questions or more ideas on what exactly your content should entail, take a peek at our other blog post or shoot us a message! We can’t wait to see what you’ll create.
