Landing A Dream Client: Actionable Steps You can Take

Whether you’re a new content creator just getting started on the scene or a big-time name who’s been in the game for years, we all secretly have a dream client we would LOVE to work with. Maybe you have the perfect pitch for a Nike “Just do It” ad or you have dreams to develop top-notch marketing strategies for celebrities like Lori Harvey and Rihanna. The road to landing your dream client is difficult, but not impossible. Here are some steps you can take to get you closer to working with your favorite celebrities and influencers and establishing partnerships with the best brands.

  1. Understand your target audience and who you’re marketing to

The key to attracting your dream client is to understand your niche and your key demographics. Do you want to be a beauty content creator and work with big-name personalities like Jackie Aina and Arnell Armon? Then you should focus on doing makeup tutorials, discussing your favorite makeup products, and venturing into get ready with me videos using the latest skincare products. You can even incorporate products made by the people you want to work with. For example, Jackie Aina has a limited edition eyeshadow palette with Anastasia Beverly Hills. A great way to get her attention would be to post a blog or video about you using the product and your thoughts. You can speak about what you like and any recommendations that you think can improve the product. It’s important to always be honest in reviews because you want your audience to know the truth, however, you should also be mindful of your words if you’re talking about someone you may want to work with in the future.

  2. Stay up to date with trends

How will your dream client find you if you're discussing topics and products that were hot last year? Sticking to old trends and marketing strategies will not only prevent your ideal clients from finding you, but it will also hinder your growth as a content creator and negatively impact your engagement rates. The market in content creation is constantly evolving with new trends emerging every day and old ones being thrown out quicker than last week’s trash. Your client wants someone who does their research and is always in the know. They need someone who can quickly take them from point A to point B while leaving their audience excited and wanting more. If you’re not a creator that’s moving with the market, your dream clients will quickly pass up on you.

  3. Do your research on the client, find a weakness or area you can help them grow in, and deliver a pitch

Robyn DelMonte, best known as GirlBossTown on TikTok, has generated a massive following and has repeatedly gone viral for developing PR moves for famous celebrities and brands. She gives out free ideas on her TikTok page which not only drives traction to her page and increases engagement, but also helps to captivate and lure in her ideal client base. She combines her expertise in PR and marketing to identify areas where these celebrities can excel in and her audience always loves her ideas.

  4. Why does this approach work so perfectly?

It first shows your audience and followers that you’re capable and good at what you do. You can stay up to date with trends and you know how to carefully determine what the best approach is based on the type of celebrity. This builds a trusting relationship with your audience and establishes your credibility. Once that is established, your name and ideas will be passed around more and more people will get to know you which will eventually lead to you attracting your dream clients. My favorite aspect of Robyn’s approach is the fact that she has stayed authentic to herself and only reports on the best, most genuine ideas that she would implement if she was on a certain celebrity or brand’s PR team. Clients can see through the fake and when you’re trying to imitate and copy others so it’s best to bring your authenticity and uniqueness to your ideas and style of work. Now you don’t have to create a TikTok account and post about strategies you would implement for different brands, but you can use Robyn’s approach as inspiration. Robyn was able to identify the pain points of the consumer and market effective strategies to help. You can do something similar by conducting research on your client and developing a pitch to take straight to the source. You can try to reach out to your clients via email, social media, or phone. Make sure your pitch is professional and contains visual aids, details, and has data to back up your claims.

  5. Know the goal that you’re trying to achieve

What will working with this dream client do for your professional and/or personal goals? Will it finally take you to the top and allow you to mix and mingle with the elites? Or do you genuinely have a product or marketing strategy that would be perfect for the client and you want to see it in action? Understanding your end goal will keep you motivated and excited throughout the process.

To summarize, landing your dream client will take a massive amount of effort on your part but it will all be worth it in the end. If you start researching ideas, staying up to date with trends, and developing the perfect pitch, you’ll be signing a contract with your ideal client in no time! Remember to never give up and stay focused. You got this!
