How to reset your self-care routine
To be honest, #HustleCulture had us in a chokehold this past year. Whether you were grinding to scale your business or working to secure the bag it’s likely you’ve been running on fumes for the past few years. Being a digital marketing baddie or small business boss lady, (and wearing every hat in between) means you’re consistently juggling two and a half jobs and a side gig, at minimum. But if there’s one toxic thought we’re leaving in 2024, it’s the idea that rest is a reward and not a requirement.
For years, women of color especially have been made to believe that the harder we work, the greater our success but the hard truth is, the days of grinding past your limits don’t pay off like they used to. Our generation is facing a different work environment and “success” can really suck if you’re too drained to appreciate your gains. Be honest: how many times have you found yourself staring at your screen too fried to come up with anything creative? That’s burnout 101 bestie and we’re not doing that in 2025.
So, as we step into the new year, you need to seriously think about resetting your self-care routine. This year you’ve got to go beyond bubble baths and burning sage (unless that’s your thing). Today’s blog is about offering tips that satisfy your soul, and help you come alive in your season of greatness.
Step 1: Redefine What "Success" Looks Like
First things first, let’s flip the script on the definition of “success”. Success doesn’t have to mean working 12-hour days or saying yes to every client who comments “Let’s work!” on your LinkedIn. This year, achievement is allowed to look like setting boundaries that honor your creative flow and don’t pull too much out of you.
Try this: write down what the minimum marker of success looks like for you. What's the smallest number of clients you can take on and feel comfortable with? What’s the smallest number of hours you can work in a day and still be productive?
This short but sweet activity can help you reframe your expectations around personal productivity and give you some guidance on how to align your work habits to support that vision.
Step 2: Audit Your Schedule
If your calendar looks less like a planner and more like Tetris, it’s time to declutter. Take stock of your schedule and ask yourself a few questions to help sift through the noise. Start with simple queries like:
Which tasks are actually moving the needle?
What can be outsourced or delegated?
Where can I carve out time for me?
Here’s one of our permanent pro tips: physically schedule non-negotiable “me-time”. Put. It. On. Your. Calendar. Whether it’s an hour for journaling, a mid-day yoga break, or catching up on your favorite Netflix trash-can relationship reality TV, block time to take care of your mind like it’s a VIP client meeting. (Because aren’t you the VIP?)
Use this time to practice “soft productivity” and focus on activities that replenish your energy. This could look like taking a walk without your phone (gasp!), watering your plants, catching up with friends, or even reading something just for fun (not just marketing blogs—though we love that you’re here, boo).
Not every hour needs to be about chasing KPIs or hitting deadlines. Sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is nothing.
Step 3: Tap Into Community
You don’t have to do this alone. In fact, please don’t. Community is a form of self-care, and in 2025, we’re leaning into it hard. Surround yourself with people who get you and understand your grind. This doesn’t have to be all professional connections either. Joining a mastermind or attending marketing events is great, but meeting like-minded people in your personal safe spaces, like a dance class or a yoga studio can help you get a diverse group of friends who care for you and support your interest in diverse and rewarding ways.
Your community can do double duty. Your network isn’t just for connection, it’s about leveling up together, and cheering one another on as you reach your goals. Remember Every step forward is worth celebrating. Being part of a solid community means that not a milestone is missed. We all think to call the homies for collabs, but it’s nice to have a personal posse of people that help you prioritize celebrating every milestone, big or small.
Queen, the point of this blog is to remind you you’re already THAT girl. Your worth is based on who you are and what you bring to this world, not what you do. Every day you treat yourself well is a win. Give yourself permission this year to create a self-care routine that lets you take down the mask and just be yourself, for once. Set boundaries, unplug when you can, and lean into the things that bring you joy.
Do you want to glow up? The gag is, that the glow comes from within. Treat yourself, queen. When you pour into yourself, success flows from the inside out.
As always, we're in your corner queen.
Take care.
With love, The Team at TCQ.
